On 5 March 2010, the Club EMAS, with support from the Catalan Ministry of the Environment and Housing, organised a conference on the new EMAS regulation at the UAB Casa de la Convalescència.
On 22 December 2009, the new third-edition of the EMAS regulation was published, which provides important new features aimed at promoting the participation of organisations both inside and outside of the EU, as well as forecasting specific conditions for small enterprises, greater employee involvement, closer attention to compliance with legal requirements and new tools for evaluating and communicating environmental results.
The entry into force of the new regulation meant that all interested parties had to review the work done and adapt their activities within the planned transition period, in order to comply with the requirements and promotional objectives of the EMAS.
The conference was employed as a meeting place for all interested parties to find out new features and receive guidance on the new EMAS. It also helped everybody learn to work better together and with greater coordination with regard to the new features of the regulation. During the meeting, different opinions were put on the table by the different interested parties: companies, accredited environmental verifiers, competent bodies, etc.
As a conclusion, each EMAS organisation in Catalonia was presented with a large personalised EMAS flag, bearing the EMAS logo and their registration numbers. The objective of the initiative is for the environmental management of EMAS-registered companies to become more and more on display.
