On 5 June 2009, taking advantage of the celebration of World Environment Day, the Club EMAS, with the support of the Barcelona Town Council, organised an event to publicise the EMAS. This activity was held all day in the Park of the Ciutadella in Barcelona. It provided information to the general public about what the EMAS is and what it means for the different organisations that have implemented it. The event was planned as a festive one, with a tent and adjoining spaces equipped so that people could watch videos about EMAS and the experiences of different registered organisations. There were also different game workshops related to the EMAS and good environmental practices for children and students who visited the space. Objects and brochures promoting this European scheme were given away, with the aim of the EMAS gaining increasingly greater recognition and knowledge among the public.
Over the course of the day, more than 300 students from different schools in Barcelona and the greater metropolitan area were welcomed, as well as people from many sectors and origins who wanted to find out more about the EMAS first hand. All attendees received information on how the EMAS is a proven tool for controlling and improving the environmental impacts at organisations and, therefore, moving forward in their relations with their surroundings and the environment. During the second part of the day, there was a clown who delighted both young and old at the workshops for children. The objective of the clown and the entertainers at the different games was to make even the youngest attendees aware of the importance of taking care of the environment and that many companies already do so, even the companies where their parents might work!
The EMAS Club believes that this line for publicising and raising awareness about the EMAS is not only for technical and corporate sectors, but also important for all citizens. The objective is for this registry to have greater knowledge among everybody and that entails acknowledging the efforts of organisations that have implemented it and those that will surely implement it soon to be at the avant-garde of environmental management.

With this event that will have continuity over time, the Club EMAS wants to express thanks to all the visitors who came, as well as each and every person who participated in organising it (professionals, public administration, member EMAS organisations, etc., with special and heartfelt thanks for the work done by the organisation Gràfiques Ortells SL).
